OUR JOURNEY

The Timeline

1990

After his Naval service, Ricky Wyatt and his brother Tony opened a shoe repair business in Winston-Salem, NC, called, 'Wyatt & Dad Shoe Repair'.

    1994-95

Tony is involved in a motorcycle accident and suffers a severe case of plantar fasciitis. Unable to find a remedy, and exhausted from living in daily agony, he turns to Ricky to help solve the problem. They began by learning how the foot works, and the root causes of chronic foot pain.

They took what they learned and began experimenting with various handmade orthotic designs for Tony, tweaking it here and there depending on how his condition responded.

      1996

After a year of no pain, the brothers decided to patent their unique contour and attempt to mass produce it so that others could have an affordable alternative to custom orthotics and the invasive procedures being touted at the time.

‘Foot Control and Support Systems’ was born. Ricky’s sons Nick and Tom, Tony’s son Lance, their friend Drew, and many other neighborhood kids act as guinea pigs for the first generation contours.

        1997-2018

The shape of the insole is continually refined based on advances in Pedorthic study and broader customer feedback.

          2019

Ricky announces his retirement date, which prompts Nick and Drew to discuss what to do with the family IP.

‘Apex Gear Co’ launches on 9/11/2019 with their flagship product, ‘Alpha Performance Inserts’. Apex acquires the Foot Control IP and production is moved from Carey, NC to Kokomo, IN.

            2021

ALPHA Performance Inserts is rebranded to ‘Foot Medic Insoles’, better representing the company’s military heritage.
